Bristol TUC – Needs Budget Campaign
Despite years of being told there is no magic money tree, we know that there is money in society — and the persistent narrative of cuts and austerity does not change that. Bristol TUC, working alongside local campaigners, is challenging that narrative by developing a ‘needs budget’ — one that begins with what our communities actually require, and then makes the case for the funding to deliver it. This will include a Bristol demonstration and a commitment from the Leader of Bristol City Council to take the costed budget to Burnham to demand the resources Bristol needs.
The first step is hearing from you — and your voice matters. Bristol is a city of diverse neighbourhoods, each bearing its own pressures: the cost of housing, the hollowing out of local services, the erosion of community support that people depend on. These are not inevitable facts of life. They are political choices, and they can be challenged. We want to capture the full reality of what people across this city are living with, and build a budget that reflects that — one that cannot be dismissed or ignored. We are holding a series of street stalls across Bristol, and we need as many people as possible to come out and make their voice heard.
